For the Ateneo Children’s Theater’s 79th anniversary presentation, “Ang Nawalang Kapatid” written by Floy Quintos made its world premiere at the Henry Lee Irwin Theatre. Ang Nawalang Kapatid was a musical adapted from the Mahabharata Hindu Epic, “ The Lost Brother “. Alfonso Gabriel Santamaria led the students-actors of the Ateneo Grade School, starring as Karna. Jervy Robles served as the Production manager with Jesus Ignacio as the Director. The performances ran from January 28-February 5, 2010.

Dulaang UP staged its version of Ang Nawalang Kapatid in 2014 directed by Prof. Dexter M. Santos. The all-student cast was led by Teetin Villanueva, Vincent Pajara, Jon Abella and Ross Pesigan. It ran from February 5-23 at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater.  Musical Direction was led once again by CJ Javier with Floy Quintos rewriting scenes to allow more complexities and key scenes of the epic.

Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas’ Sita & Rama: Papet Ramayana was staged in UP Diliman in celebration of the Diliman Arts Month 2017. With Music by Joey Ayala and Book and Lyrics by Amelia Lapena-Bonifacio, Sita & Rama is directed by Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete. From the Hindu Origin, the Ramayana recounts the story of Rama and his wife Sita, who is exiled along with his brother Lakshmana. The performance attempted  to reconnect Philippine folk narratives with Asian roots.

Ballet Philippines’ Rama Hari

Ballet Philippines’ Rama Hari was re-staged in 2012 led by the duo of Christian Bautista and Karylle Tatlonghari. A re-telling of the timeless love story of Rama and Sita, the ballet musical Rama Hari reminds us of our Asian values and talent in the arts that is characteristic ofFilipinos. The artistic team is composed of Ryan Cayabyab for music, Alice Reyes for choreography, the late National Artist for Theater Design Salvador Bernal and National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera as the librettist.

PETA Theater Centre- Mahabharata B-War (2015)

PETA Theater Centre’s Mahabharata B-WAR was an international touring production  which began in 2013. Adapted from the world’s longest epic, each chapter is performed  yearly in various Asian countries. 2013 saw Cambodia and Vietnam host the production while Indonesia and Thailand hosted in 2014. The work was established by Hiroshi Koike in 2012 to build stronger connections among Asian countries through the performing arts, an objective which is shared by the PETA Theater Center

IPAG’s Sita: Ramayana Revisited  (2016)

The Iligan Performing Arts Guild’s Sita: The Ramayana Revisted  was performed at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology gymnasium back in December  2015.  Led by Artistic Director, Dr. Steven Patrick Fernandez, IPAG’s productions integrate the dance, music, and arts traditions of Mindanao. The group has represented the Philippines in numerous theater festivals here and abroad.

UP Diliman’s Putri Anak

In cooperation with Cultural Center of the Philippines, University of the Philippines Diliman College of Music (CMu) and Center for International Studies (CIS) staged Putri Anak, Isang Bagong Komedya  in celebration of the UP CMu’s centennial year. The production stayed true to the conventions of the komedya with enhancements made by other Asian-inspired performance traditions such as Bharatanatyam. The script was worked by Enrique Villasis and Juan Ekis. Grace Jaramillo did the dramaturgical work with theater researcher Bryan Viray. The Komedya was directed by Jina Umali with Angela Baguilat and Jeremy de la Cruz.

Vaibhavam and Sadhana

Vaibhavam and Sadhana are concerts performed by the students of Ms. Shanti Sreedhar. Ms. Shanti Sreedhar  is a Bharatanatyam specialist who has worked with the UP College of Music and PETA Theater Center. Both events celebrated Indian Classical, contemporary and folk dance at the RCBC Theatre, Makati. The recital, showcased talent of over 35 students ranging from 4 – 40 years old.
